Frome is a quiet little town in Somerset not far away from the Roman town of Bath. The town grew up with the textile industry, particularly woollens, though in later times became associated with printing and bronze and brass work such as bell and statue making. The town has a tradition of culture, and the Frome Festival, which combines the old with the modern including music, film, dance and drama, is held every year. The town is now moving upmarket with a new Bingo Hall.
Despite the fact that Bingo Halls throughout the country are facing closure due to declining attendances brought about through a combination of peoples reluctance to spend money in the face of the current recession along with the increasing popularity of stay at home online Bingo, Frome is to get a new Bingo Hall. This will be the first time any form of live Bingo apart from that organised for charity will be seen in the town.
The development is to some degree shrouded in mystery as the entrepreneurs behind the plans have decided to keep their identities secret for the time being. Their plan is to convert a nightclub into the Bingo Hall and for some time they have been attempting to gain all the necessary planning permissions and licenses. Whilst their licence won't be officially granted until the end of April they are reasonably optimistic of the outcome of their application as there are no serious objections to it being granted and they have the support of the local police force.
Building work is currently underway and extensive alterations are being made to the once popular nightclub that had failed financially over recent times. The new Bingo Hall can seat 300 players and it is planned to hold games during both afternoons and evenings.
Although flying in the face of Bingo Hall closures elsewhere, the management team is confident that the new hall at Frome will be successful. There are no similar facilities available anywhere else in the town and surveys have shown that many of the local residents are very positive about the venture. The hall should fill a significant niche.
