One of the loveliest places for a self catering holiday would most likely be in central France. Amidst fields of pastures and woodlands, deep forests and serene lakes, and near the historic towns of Limousin, Limoge, Eymoutiers, Guéret, Bourganeuf and St Léonard de Noblat. There is something to see and learn in all of these historic cities. Escape back into time to discover something new as you visit these great cities, from landmarks to works of art.

One of the lovely things about central France is that it has the benefit of a temperate, agreeable climate. The beautiful countryside is quiet, private and secluded :ideal for couples or families looking to relax in a perfectly peaceful setting. Limousin, which is located in the heart of France, may be distant from the sea, but it is compensated for by the abundance of freshwater lakes. These picturesque lakes are commonly used for swimming and fishing. The architecture is quite a sight with its narrow streets and ancient houses with their tiny balconies and stone steps. Another lovely spot is Bourganeuf situated 30 kilometers south of Guéret, it is a beautiful medieval town dating from the 12th Century. This town was one of the first towns in France to have electricity. A few incredible places to visit here include the church of Saint-Jean dating from the 12th century, the museum of electrification and the church of Soubrebost. The July 14th celebrations and the medieval spectacular are something to see and are held on the first weekend of August. The Chabrieres Forest is a great place to see the wolf packs in their natural environment, and it is located just south of the town of Guéret. This is the home of several packs of gray, black, and white wolves whose lives have been threatened but are now protected by the animal Park of Monts de Gueret.
